MissionThe main purpose of TeRN is to realize a Technological District in Basilicata Region (Southern Italy) in the field of Earth Observation and Natural Hazards. The main activities of TERN are focused on the development of innovative technologies and methodologies aimed to the protection and prevention of natural hazards.
TeRN Consortium is actually the coordinator of the project “Earth Observation and Natural Hazard Technologies”, a project funded by the Italian Research and University Ministry - Art. 13 of the D.M. 593 /2000.
This project was approved by Decreto Dirigenziale n.1590 del 27/07/2006. ActivitiesMain activities of TeRN Consortium can be referred to the following application areas:
Earth Observation by ground-based, by aircraft and by satellite techniques in order to monitor, forecast and prevent the natural risks, with particular reference to the hydrogeologic hazard; Preventing and mitigation of natural disasters in areas characterized by high seismic and hydrogeological risk, through the application of innovative technologies for the safeguard of architectural heritage and for the checking of civil buildings in areas; Information and Communication and GRID technologies for sharing different data and managing them in inter-operable systems in Earth Observation applications.
The technological district will provide services, advanced technologies and infrastructures in Earth Observation and Information Communication fields. These activities are in agreement with the GMES (Global Monitoring of Environment and Security) program, which represents one of the main priorities individuated by the European Commission.
