The Consortium TeRN's founding partners are: “THE REGIONAL ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION AGENCY OF BASILICATA - ARPAB”, “THE ITALIAN NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL - CNR”, “THE NETWORK OF UNIVERSITY LABORATORIES OF SEISMIC ENGINEERING - RELUIS” and the private company such as “The TELESPAZIO S.p.A.”, which is part of the Finmeccanica group. By July2007 the CREATEC Consortium “Consortium for environmental and technological innovation” constituted by 20 Small and Medium Enterprises, takes part to TeRN Consortium. TeRN is willing to enlarge the partnership to ENEA. TeRN partners have operative sites located in Basilicata Region: The main activities carried out by Regional Environment Protection Agency of Basilicata (ARPB) can be synthesized in: 1)Development of methodologies aimed at the management of environmental data and at the promotion of environmental sustainability; 2)Control of the sources of environmental pressure determined by human activity which, using resources and integrating with the surrounding environment (discharges, emissions, refuse, exploitation of the soil, radiation,...), impact on the environment; 3)Monitoring the state of the environment from the quality levels of different matrices (water, air, soil,...); 4)Technical support to the Public Administration in the definition of responses (Plans, projects), initiated to confront the pressures and so improve the state of the environment and 5)Networking with Regional and National Agencies of Environment in monitoring of air quality and natural resources; The CREATEC Consortium “Consortium for environmental and technological innovation” consists of enterprises gathering poles of excellence to identify a common industrial tool for the Region of Basilicata in order to boost economy, job opportunities and technological innovation. The Association of Enterprises for Environment Protection and Technological Innovation is made up of 20 small and medium-sized companies,13 of which are located in the province of Potenza and 7 in the province of Matera. CREATEC is specialized in Industrial Research and Development of Innovative services, has an overall turnover of 45M € and more than 500 employees. The vocation of the consortium is supported and enhanced by the expertise of different companies whose complementariness gives a certain added value and competitive advantage. The companies are specialized in the following areas: 1)Designing and implementation of earth stations for satellite data acquisition; 2)Programs, national and international activities in the field of Earth Observation by satellite tele-monitoring for the control of biomass, pollutant dispersion, desertification, volcanic activity control, flood survey and seismic events; 3)Information Technology for Public Administrations; 4)Technological control systems aiming to reduce the risk of structure and infrastructure collapse by using satellite data and Multitemporal Interferometric SAR Images integrated with ground station GPS units and 5)Air and earth survey of territorial infrastructures and environmental features, in particular of water systems, dams and landslide hazards, by using airphotogrammetric monitoring, laser scanning, infrared and hyperspectral sensors. The National Research Council (CNR) is a public organization; its duty is to carry out, promote, spread, transfer and improve research activities in the main sectors of knowledge growth and of its applications for the scientific, technological, economic and social development of the Country. CNR is distributed all over Italy through a network of institutes aiming at promoting a wide diffusion of its competences throughout the national territory and at facilitating contacts and cooperation with local firms and organizations. CNR in TeRN Consortium is represented by the Institute of Methodologies for Environmental Analysis (IMAA, which is part of the Italian National Research Council (CNR). IMAA is a public organization of great relevance in the field of scientific and technological research whose original institution goes back to 1923. It is a Competence Centre of the Italian Civil Protection; The The Network of University Laboratories of Seismic Engineering (RELUIS) is an Inter-University Consortium which coordinates more than 100 laboratories of Seismic Engineering, and represents a National and InTeRNational reference subject. The main activities are focused on: 1)Coordinating the activities of the University Laboratories of Seismic Engineering; 2)Supporting the applicated research in order to assess and mitigate the seismic risk; 3)Promoting the collaborations between Universities, Research Centres and Enterprises and 4)Enforcement of the University Laboratories of Seismic Engineering by training and technology transfer activities. It is a Competence Centre of the Italian Civil Protection; The Company Telespazio, a Finmeccanica (67%) Alcatel (33%) joint venture, is among the top worldwide satellite service providers. Telespazio plays a leading role in the reference markets applying its technological know-how and long experience to: 1)Satellite management and navigation; 2)Broadband multimedia telecommunications and 3)Earth observation services: acquisition and processing of satellite data and development and sale of products and software. It is also involved in key European space programs: Galileo and Cosmo-Skymed;
